OSHA Top 10 Violations 2015 are a snapshot of safety in the United States. Employers should use this list as a guide to find hazards in their own workplace.
The OSHA Top 10 is the most frequently cited standards after inspections of worksites by federal OSHA. They release the list to help companies understand these standards and find ways to fix problems before an inspection.
OSHA and the National Safety Council released the OSHA Top 10 on Sept. 29 at the NSC Congress & Expo 2015 in Atlanta, GA. The announcement was made by Patrick Kapust, deputy director of OSHA’s Directorate of Enforcement Programs.

The Occupational Safety And Health Administration and the National Safety Council released the “OSHA Top 10 Violations” at the NSC Congress and Expo 2015 in Atlanta on Sept. 29th. For the fifth year in a row, the Fall Protection Standard is OSHA’s most frequently cited violation. Fall Protection topped the list again, despite various US Government agencies’ efforts, such as the National Safety Stand-Down the past two years.
The OSHA Top 10 contains few surprises this year. The list has been static the past few years, though categories move up or down slightly. Here is the OSHA Top 10 for fiscal 2015—that’s Oct. 1st, 2014 to Sept. 30th, 2015.
1. Fall Protection (1926.501) (the Construction Standard)
2. Hazard Communication (1910.1200)
3. Scaffolding (1926.451) (the Construction Standard)
4. Respiratory Protection (1910.134)
5. Lockout/Tagout (1910.147)
6. Powered Industrial Trucks (1910.178) You know them as forklifts.
7. Ladders (1926.1053) (the Construction Standard)
8. Electrical – Wiring Methods (1910.305)
9. Machine Guarding (1910.212)
10. Electrical – General Requirements (1910.303)
Patrick Kapust, deputy director of OSHA’s Directorate of Enforcement Programs, revealed this list. He said “Employers should use this as a tool.”
Kapust went on to say a few things about some of the items on the list, including:
Lockout/tagout, No. 5. He said the biggest issues with are not developing procedures for locking/tagging out equipment.
On Ladders, No. 7: “If you see a ladder that’s not in good repair, take that out of service and tag it.”
On No. 9, Machine Guarding, Kapust said “Folks aren’t anchoring machinery down. It should be anchored to the floor appropriately.”
